ABOUT

Hi there.

I'm Kenzie. I have been teaching yoga classes on the North Shore for close to fifteen years. Originally from Nova Scotia, I completed my 200 hour yoga training at the Salt Spring of Yoga in 2002 and my 500 hour designation a decade later with Semperviva Yoga College.  I offer regular Restorative, Gentle and Chair yoga, Nidra and meditation through North Shore Hospice Every Day Counts Program and more active modalities of yoga asana through my own community classes. This must be why you are here! Welcome! After twenty years of teaching and learning, my current classes offer a unique blend of functional movement science, intentional nervous system regulation, and gentle somatic inquiry, through a trauma-informed, contemporary yogic lens.

CLASSES

Hatha

Throughout this multi-level asana practice we will explore traditional yoga poses and practices through a contemporary, functional and playful lens while cultivating a deepening sense of present moment awareness and embodiment. We will use gravity, space and movement to anchor ourselves in the unfolding present, noticing where we need to gather stability and where we need to soften and allow.

Gentle Hatha

This practice offers us the opportunity to explore what it feels like to be truly gentle with ourselves. In this beginner appropriate asana class we will explore traditional yoga poses and practices through a contemporary, functional and playful lens while cultivating a deepening sense of the present moment to help us notice where we need to gather stability and where we need to soften and allow.

Core Hatha

Within the framework of a contemporary yoga practice, we will cultivate a visceral and embodied experience of our functional core, building the capacity to add complexity and dynamic ease to initially simple, then increasingly more challenging poses and movements.

Testimonials

Kenzie offers a friendly and caring environment with excellent instruction of the yoga poses. She ensures everyone in the class is comfortable with what they are doing and provides a variety of options that allow people with a wide range of skill levels and injuries the ability to enjoy the class. Along with her gentle humour, she provides a class that captures the yoga philosophy and presence of movement that calms and relaxes my mind and body. Kenzie is an incredibly talented and committed teacher.

Kenzie is a highly trained, kind, caring, humorous and inclusive yoga teacher. Before I attended Kenzie’s Yoga Beginner class, I was very intimidated at the thought of participating in a yoga class. I had very limited flexibility, balance and coordination and I thought yoga would be impossible and embarrassing. Kenzie is incredibly warm and welcoming, and with her approach to yoga instruction I was able to participate fully in the classes and to improve in all areas. Kenzie is able to differentiate her instruction in order to include all levels of learners in her practice. She has a huge depth of knowledge about what foundational movements are important for creating healthy bodies that will allow us to continue to move and function as we age. Kenzie induces an amazing sense of calm and relaxation at the end of class, through the power of her voice, allowing participants to shed their stresses and anxieties.

In addition to the usual stretching and flexibility component of yoga, Kenzie’s unique class style has a strong focus on mobility and strength. With the perfect combination of strength, mobility and balance work, flexibility, and relaxation, her class makes me feel a strong reset in my body. I feel stronger and more capable after Kenzie’s classes. I’ve had numerous interactions with others upon entering/exiting her class where they have emphasized to me how much her class has changed their life.

I’d never been interested in yoga in the past, but as a retired senior I decided to give it a try as my joints have stiffened up considerably with age. I started taking classes with a couple of different teachers, but found Kenzie to be the best. She was gentle and encouraging in her personable teaching style and I surprised myself when I realized I was looking forward to her classes.
